BEAD WORK ARTISTRY FROM GUATEMALA

Colibri Creations is a Project of the Guatemala Art and Culture Connection and is a collection of beadwork made by Mayan women from Lake Atitlan in the Guatemalan Highlands. Their work is reflective of a long tradition of highly skilled expertise, craftsmanship and creative excellence which is reflected in everything they produce.The purchase of this bead work creations helps to improve the living conditions of Mayan families. Money earned selling allows the women to work at home. In these Indigenous communities, jobs and social services are practically nonexistent. Through the sale of their crafts, mothers and other family members earn much needed income for basic necessities,
We have been working with several families of beaders from the town of Santiago Atitlan for a number of years. They continually come up with innovative new designs and combined with superb craftsmanship are really works of art.

When it is a daily struggle to survive, people will often sell their hard earned work for much less than its value. We are dedicated to putting people before profit and pay a fair price to the artisans and are dedicated to assisting these talented artisans to be able to sustain themselves and their rich cultural heritage.
